New Year Announcements

2011 has been an interesting year, to say the least. I feel like I have come into my own as a photographer, and am finally able to produce the images I feel reflect my style. I even feel a little wiser, thanks to the amazing group of photographers I talk with each day. I have by no means perfected my craft, and I have a long way to go, but it is nice to be truly proud of my art again and to feel like part of a community – which I once thought would be impossible for a photographer.

The biggest piece of news I have to share is one that some already know. From this point forward I will not be shooting weddings anymore. I have been phasing out this side of my business for some time, and I have decided it’s time to draw a line in the proverbial sand. My dream is to focus on shooting couples, babies and families, as those relationships are what I truly love to shoot. What’s the point of any of this if it isn’t fulfilling and joyful?

As my husband Daniel searches for a job with his fresh-off-the-presses Master’s degree, we will be booking sessions only as far out as 3 months – in case of the need for a hasty move out of the area. For this reason, I have taken down my baby plan pricing as well. However once we are for sure going to be here for awhile I will begin to actually market myself again.

I am actually adding a new facet to Heather Mount Photography, and while it’s quietly now, I will rev up marketing and have an entire side brand already waiting in the wings ready to reveal once we’re settled. Essentially, I’m now offering mentoring sessions at $50 a session, to cover varying topics of both business and photography. Keep an eye out for those soon on my pricing page. In the future I hope to expand instruction to group classes and photo walks.

There are other changes to note as well – portrait session prices are rising slightly in the new year, but I think the prices are still a fantastic value, especially considering some of the new equipment I’ll be upgrading to soon. I’m finally getting myself a full frame, now that it isn’t as necessary for me to have so many wedding backups – a dream I’ve had for the last few years finally coming true.

I truly have had a great year, and I want to thank all of my wonderful, sweet, lovely clients for being so good to me. I hope 2012 brings all of you joy and prosperity!
